Capability Overview

Environmental consulting that
goes beyond compliance

Most environmental consulting firms help you meet minimum requirements and move on. The Black Table approaches environmental consulting differently, as a strategic function integrated with everything we build. Our environmental team helps clients operationalize sustainability, not just report on it.

  • Environmental strategy integrated from feasibility through closeout
  • Standalone consulting or embedded within TBT EPC delivery
  • Operationalizing sustainability — not just reporting on it

"The projects we design and build are engineered with environmental performance in mind from the first feasibility study — not assessed for compliance after the concrete is poured."

The Black Table Difference
Key Benefits

What strategy-level environmental work unlocks for your project

001

Compliance from Day One

Environmental requirements identified and designed into the project from feasibility, not discovered during construction when they are expensive to address.

002

Incentive Alignment

We identify every available federal, state, and utility incentive and structure your project to capture them before design is locked. Money left on the table at design is gone forever.

003

ESG Reporting Support

Investor-grade ESG documentation and Scope 1-3 emissions accounting that holds up to due diligence from lenders, investors, and public agencies.

004

Regulatory Risk Reduction

Proactive environmental review identifies regulatory risks before they become project-stopping surprises: NEPA, wetlands, species, air quality, and stormwater compliance included.

005

Carbon & Climate Strategy

Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions baselines, reduction roadmaps, and climate resilience assessments built around your actual operations.

006

Community Impact Documentation

Quantified community impact reporting, including jobs created, energy cost reductions, and carbon displaced, supporting grant applications and stakeholder reporting.

Environmental Consulting Solutions

Strategy meets compliance

We cover the full environmental picture. Site assessments, regulatory permitting, ESG strategy, climate resilience, and funding opportunities that make your project viable.

  • Environmental site assessment identifying risks and sustainability opportunities

    Environmental Assessment

    Environmental Impact Assessment

Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, wetlands delineation, species surveys, and NEPA compliance documentation, integrated with the project design team so findings drive design decisions in real time.

    • Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA)
    • Phase II investigation and remediation coordination
    • Wetlands delineation and Section 404/401 support
    • Threatened and endangered species surveys
    • Cultural and historic resource surveys
    • NEPA environmental review and documentation
    • Environmental constraint mapping
  • ESG Strategy

ESG strategy development session for corporate sustainability and reporting

    ESG Strategy

    ESG Strategy & Reporting

Investor-grade ESG documentation and Scope 1-3 emissions inventories that hold up to due diligence from lenders, investors, and public agencies, not spreadsheets held together with assumptions.

    • Materiality assessment and stakeholder engagement
    • ESG framework selection (GRI, SASB, TCFD)
    • Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions inventory
    • ESG performance baseline and goal setting
    • Annual ESG report preparation
    • Third-party assurance coordination
    • Investor and lender ESG disclosure support
  • Regulatory permitting process for an environmental infrastructure project

    Regulatory Permitting

    Regulatory Permitting

Clean Water Act permits, air quality permits, stormwater permits, and environmental clearances, managed in coordination with the project schedule so the permitting track never holds construction up.

    • Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permits
    • Individual and nationwide permit applications
    • Air quality permit applications
    • Stormwater permit applications (NPDES)
    • State environmental agency coordination
    • Environmental clearance documentation
    • Permit compliance monitoring
  • Corporate sustainability program implementation and monitoring

    Sustainability Programs

    Sustainability Program Development

Operational sustainability programs designed to reduce costs, reduce environmental impact, and produce the documentation your stakeholders, lenders, and regulators are beginning to require.

    • Energy management program development
    • Waste reduction and zero-waste planning
    • Water efficiency and conservation programs
    • Supply chain sustainability assessments
    • Employee sustainability engagement programs
    • Sustainability performance tracking systems
    • Community benefit program development
  • Climate resilience planning for infrastructure in high-risk environments

    Climate Resilience

    Climate Resilience & Adaptation

Physical climate risk assessments and resilience planning for facilities that need to hold up in a changing climate, particularly relevant for government clients, coastal properties, and organizations with long-lived infrastructure assets.

    • Physical climate risk assessment
    • Transition risk and regulatory risk analysis
    • TCFD-aligned disclosure support
    • Infrastructure resilience planning
    • Flood and extreme weather adaptation strategies
    • Climate-resilient design standards
    • Long-range capital planning support
  • Identifying federal and state incentives and grants for clean energy projects

    Incentive & Grant ID

    Incentive & Grant Identification

Systematic identification and structuring of federal, state, and utility incentives: IRA credits, USDA programs, EPA grants, and state-level programs. We identify the money before design is locked, not after construction is complete.

    • IRA Investment Tax Credit (ITC) structuring
    • IRA Production Tax Credit (PTC) analysis
    • 179D commercial building energy deduction
    • USDA REAP and rural energy programs
    • EPA Environmental Justice grant applications
    • State and utility incentive identification
    • Justice40 program eligibility assessment
Our Process

How we deliver phase by phase

Every project follows a rigorous, documented process, so nothing falls through the cracks between phases and nothing comes as a surprise at the end.

01
Initial Consultation and Scoping

We meet with you to understand your project, your organization, and your goals. We identify which of our six service areas apply to your situation, establish priorities, and define the full scope of the engagement before any work begins.

02
Assessment and Discovery

We conduct all necessary fieldwork, data collection, and analysis across your applicable service areas. Environmental site assessments and wetlands surveys are completed. ESG materiality assessments and Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions inventories are established. Climate risk exposures are identified. Incentive and grant eligibility is researched and confirmed. Every recommendation that follows is grounded in verified findings, not assumptions.

03
Strategy and Regulatory Planning

Assessment findings are translated into a clear, executable strategy. Regulatory permitting pathways are mapped to your project schedule. An ESG framework is selected and a sustainability program roadmap is developed. Climate resilience priorities are sequenced. Incentive and grant opportunities are structured for capture before design is locked. You receive a concrete action plan with defined deliverables, owners, and timelines.

04
Execution and Implementation

Strategy moves into operation. Permit applications are submitted and tracked through approval. Sustainability programs are launched and connected to performance measurement systems. Climate resilience measures are integrated into project design and operations. Grant applications are prepared and submitted. ESG reporting systems are built and populated with real data.

05
Monitoring, Reporting and Ongoing Compliance

Performance is measured against established baselines across all active service areas. Regulatory compliance is tracked and documented. Annual ESG reports are produced, verified, and delivered ready for investor, lender, or regulatory review. Incentive compliance requirements are monitored. As your project or organization evolves, we adjust the program to capture new opportunities and stay ahead of new requirements.
